The ‘Massapequa College Showcase’ kicked off the weekend of Dec. 6 and two SoccerViza Football Club (SVFC) teams went undefeated – U16 Boys Black NPL and U17 Boys Black.
The U16 Boys Black NPL team started the weekend off by beating White Plains Academy 3-0. Co-head coach, Anthony Anzevui, said the defense was organized, and the build-up play from the back was sharp and high in quality.
“The offense was creative, and it just flowed,” said Anzevui. “But although it was our first time playing together as a team, we could improve on finishing and being more dangerous in certain areas of the pitch.”
“We have a team with a lot of potential” said co-head coach, Oscar Curras. “Every one of our players wants to be on the ball and that will help us when we’re in tight games when we need someone who won't shy away from big opportunities.”
The U16 Boys Black NPL tied its second game against Beachside S.C. (0-0) and beat GPS MA in its last game (3-1).
The U17 Boys Black team made its debut against White Plains Academy and winning 3-1.
Head Coach Mike Alcaraz said he was impressed by how well the team played.
“They quickly found a rhythm and played with some confidence,” said Alcaraz. “The speed of play needs to improve in the middle third, limiting touches to move the ball and break down the opponent.”
Assistant Coach Harry Ocampo said he is proud of the team and he cannot wait to see how they improve throughout the season.
“This team is talented in many ways,” said Ocampo. Finding the chemistry a little quicker is something to be worked on. I was impressed with the attitude and communication when the momentum of the game wasn’t in our favor. At the end of the day, we dominated in possession which led to big results.”
The U17 Boys Black team beat Southhampton S.C. (3-2) in its second game and finished the showcase off by beating and Auburndale F.C. (4-1).
